Laurie Lipton “Carnival of the Dead”

Get ready for Halloween with the morbid new works of Laurie Lipton! Her new solo show, “Carnival of the Dead”, will be at the Last Rites Gallery in New York City starting October 1st, 2011. Lipton examines the varying ways that death is perceived by different cultures, from the colorful celebration of death during Mexico’s Day of the Dead festival to the western fear and inability to accept death. “Carnival of the Dead” features humorous, grotesque, and well-crafted charcoal and pencil drawings, and closes on October 23rd, 2011.

Pulse Los Angeles

The Pulse Contemporary Art Fair, traditionally held in Miami, is holding its first Los Angeles edition starting September 30, 2011. Vanguard works of all mediums including sculpture, paintings, street art, performance and multimedia will be on display, notably this piece by David Adey, “Flock”. “Beauty Contest” at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York

The Austrian Cultural Forum New York is hosting the new group exhibit, “Beauty Contest”, which opened last Tuesday, September 20th. Various works in multiple mediums by twenty internationally acclaimed artists will be on display, all commenting on society’s obsession with physical beauty and the social construct of what is beautiful. Kukula “Lonely Opulent Things”

Israeli artist Nataly Abramovitch, aka Kukula, will open her second solo show at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, California on September 24th, 2011. Korean artist Do Ho Suh explores the concept of home in his new show at the Lehmann Maupin gallery in New York City, “Home Within Home”. The artist studies our relationship to physical spaces, the coexistence of multiple cultural identities, and nostalgia for our childhood past, through mini recreations of past homes using realistic or unusual materials. Norwegian artist Esra Roise has a dynamic body of work, including trendy fashion illustrations and colorful tributes to hipster celebrities.
